Encor unveils modern restomod of classic Lotus Esprit

Encor restomod Lotus Esprit: 400hp V8, limited edition carscoops.com

Discover Encor's limited-edition Lotus Esprit restomod with a 400hp V8, carbon-fiber body, and manual transmission. A blend of classic design and modern engineering for driving enthusiasts.

British company Encor has unveiled an unusual project: a modern interpretation of the classic Lotus Esprit. This isn't a restoration, but a full-fledged restomod that blends iconic design with updated engineering.

The build is based on the later Esprit Series 4 platform, which improves rigidity and handling. The exterior, however, draws inspiration from the original 1970s Esprit, retaining Giugiaro's wedge-shaped silhouette but incorporating modern elements and a carbon-fiber body.

The standout feature is the powertrain. Under the hood sits a modified 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 400 horsepower. Despite the forced induction, the engine sounds naturally aspirated—a key selling point of the project. It's paired with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, a rarity in modern sports cars. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes about 4 seconds, with a top speed reaching 280 km/h. The car weighs just around 1,200 kg, delivering an excellent power-to-weight ratio.

Production is strictly limited to just 50 units. Pricing starts at $570,000, not including the donor vehicle, which the client must supply separately.

This Esprit is a prime example of how emotions can command a premium over pure technology. In an era of electric vehicles and automatics, projects like this offer a true haven for enthusiasts of pure, unadulterated driving.
