Toyota and Lexus recall for incorrect load capacity labels

Toyota recalls 8,230 vehicles due to software error causing understated load values on labels. Affects 2024-2026 models like RAV4 Hybrid and Lexus GX.

Toyota Motor North America has announced a major recall of 8,230 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the United States due to non-compliance with FMVSS No. 110 safety requirements.

The Root Cause of the Recall

As reported by 32CARS, the service campaign stems from an error in the software used to calculate the weight of installed accessories. Consequently, the tire and loading information labels displayed understated maximum load values. This detail matters because if a driver relies on these figures and loads the vehicle to its indicated capacity, there is a risk of exceeding the actual safe weight, which could increase the likelihood of an accident.

Affected Models

The recall covers a broad range of 2024-2026 models, including the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Tacoma, Tundra, Land Cruiser, Grand Highlander, and Crown Signia, as well as the Lexus GX, NX Hybrid, and TX. The Lexus GX550 and the hybrid Land Cruiser account for the largest number of vehicles involved. The software glitch affected cars produced from April 2024 through November 2025 at Toyota plants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Japan.

How the Issue Will Be Fixed

Toyota will notify owners by the end of May 2026. Dealers will replace the incorrect load capacity labels free of charge. Until the fix is applied, dealers have been instructed to halt sales of new vehicles covered by the recall.
