Mercedes-Benz is testing a compact G-Class, dubbed Little G, with a boxy design and electric options. Expected by 2027, it offers an affordable alternative.

Mercedes-Benz is continuing tests of a compact version of the G-Class, unofficially dubbed the "Little G." A prototype has been spotted on roads, retaining the classic model's signature boxy design.

The new SUV will be smaller than the standard G-Class, with a length of around 4.4 meters compared to the original's 4.7 meters. It will also be lower, which could impact ground clearance.

The prototype likely features an electric powertrain, but a version with an internal combustion engine is also expected in the future. Preliminary data suggests the hybrid may get a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, similar to the new CLA. All versions are planned to have all-wheel drive.

This model is being developed on a new platform and should maintain off-road capabilities. The newcomer is expected to hit the market by the end of 2027, offering a more affordable alternative to the classic version.
