Smart unveils #6 liftback, its first with plug-in hybrid powertrain
Discover the Smart #6, a 4.9-meter liftback with a plug-in hybrid engine, marking the brand's new body style and industry trends for 2026 models.
Smart has unveiled its new #6 model, marking the brand's first-ever liftback. Previously known for compact hatchbacks and crossovers, the company has now ventured into a completely different body style.
The Smart #6 is a five-door liftback measuring 4.9 meters in length, 1.92 meters in width, and 1.5 meters in height. In terms of dimensions, it's comparable to the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb, but it features a longer wheelbase of 2.93 meters, which is 6 cm more than those models.
Unlike Smart's European lineup, which consists solely of electric vehicles, this new model comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This approach was previously used on the #5 model for the Chinese market.

Currently, the Smart #6 is only available as a hybrid version designated EHD. The timeline for its European market launch, including the Netherlands, remains undisclosed.
The introduction of this liftback expands Smart's model range, which previously consisted mainly of crossovers. This move reflects a broader industry trend where automakers are experimenting with body styles and powertrain types for their 2026 models.
