MG launches the S9 PHEV in Spain, a seven-seat hybrid SUV with over 100 km electric range, spacious cabin, and competitive pricing from €33,000.

MG has officially launched the new MG S9 PHEV in Spain. This flagship seven-seat crossover aims to strengthen the brand's position in the family car segment. As the largest model in the lineup, it becomes a direct competitor to popular hybrid SUVs.

Its powertrain is familiar from the HS PHEV: a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 24.7 kWh battery. This setup allows the vehicle to travel over 100 km on electric power alone according to the WLTP cycle, making it a viable alternative to urban electric vehicles for daily use.

Practicality is a key focus. The cabin accommodates seven passengers, and with the third row folded, the boot space expands to 1,026 liters. Standard equipment includes dual 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, and the full MG Pilot suite of safety systems.

Prices are set at €42,340 and €45,340 for the Comfort and Premium versions respectively. However, with available subsidies and promotions, the starting price could drop below €33,000, which makes the model particularly competitive.

The launch of the S9 is part of MG's broader product strategy, which includes several new models slated for 2026, among them fully electric vehicles.

In practice, the S9 presents an interesting compromise. Instead of chasing maximum technological complexity, the brand is prioritizing affordability and versatility. This approach could prove more appealing in the European market, where buyers are increasingly looking not for record-breaking specs, but for a clear balance of price, space, and efficiency.
