Audi launches updated V6 engines with hybrid tech for Q5, A5, and A6
Discover Audi's new V6 engines for Q5, A5, and A6 models, including 3.0 TFSI mild-hybrid, 3.0 TDI diesel, and 2.9 TFSI plug-in hybrid with 639 horsepower. Learn about performance and efficiency gains.
Audi has introduced an updated lineup of V6 engines for the Q5, A5, and A6 models. This includes a gasoline 3.0 TFSI with mild-hybrid technology, a diesel 3.0 TDI, and a new 2.9 TFSI biturbo plug-in hybrid.
The gasoline 3.0 TFSI features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a variable geometry turbocharger. This setup delivers consistent power across a broad rev range while improving fuel efficiency.
The diesel 3.0 TDI produces 299 horsepower and incorporates twin-charging with an electric compressor, along with an MHEV+ system. These enhancements reduce turbo lag and boost overall efficiency.
Topping the range is the 2.9 TFSI plug-in hybrid, found in the RS 5. It generates a combined output of 639 horsepower and 825 Nm of torque. By pairing twin turbochargers with a hybrid system, this engine offers strong performance alongside reduced fuel consumption.
Overall, this new lineup highlights Audi's shift toward more efficient technologies without sacrificing performance. Such approaches are set to shape the development of sports cars in 2026, blending power, economy, and modern hybrid systems.
