Details emerge on the Chery Exeed Sterra E05, a range-extender hybrid crossover with a 1.5L engine and lithium-iron-phosphate battery. Competing in China's fast-growing EV market.

Chinese certification database MIIT has revealed details about a new range-extender hybrid crossover from Chery's premium Xingtu (Exeed) brand. Registered under the index SQR6481REEVM32T, this vehicle falls into the range-extender category, where a gasoline engine primarily acts as a generator to charge the battery rather than directly powering the wheels.

This type of powertrain, which combines electric drive with an onboard generator, is gaining significant traction in the Chinese market. For buyers, this matters because it offers the benefits of electric vehicles without range anxiety.

In terms of dimensions, the Sterra E05 is a midsize family crossover. It measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. These specifications place it squarely in the segment of popular Chinese SUVs aimed at family buyers.

Under the hood sits a 1.5-liter SQRH4J15 gasoline engine developed by Chery, producing 115 kW of power with a maximum net output of 105 kW. The hybrid system incorporates a lithium-iron-phosphate battery from Gotion High-Tech. The car supports external charging, confirming its plug-in hybrid status.

Published images show the new model features Exeed's current design language. The front end has a smooth, streamlined nose with slim LED lighting and vertical auxiliary light units. At the rear, a full-width light bar runs across the tailgate, prominently displaying the EXEED logo. The Sterra E05 badge on the liftgate confirms it belongs to the brand's new electrified lineup.

This launch reflects Chery's strategy to expand the Sterra family as a dedicated electrified sub-brand under Exeed. In practice, Chinese automakers have been heavily investing in range-extender technology because it blends electric vehicle advantages with extended driving range.

Overall, the picture is straightforward: the Sterra E05 will compete in the same segment as models like the Li Auto L6 and Aito M7, along with other range-extender SUVs. This vehicle class is currently one of the fastest-growing in China's automotive market.
