Tesla's 2026.8 software update introduces Comfort Braking for the Model Y, providing smoother stops and enhancing driving comfort. Learn about this new feature.

Tesla has rolled out a new software update, 2026.8, introducing an additional comfort feature for owners of the refreshed Model Y crossover. This feature, called Comfort Braking, aims to make the vehicle's stop smoother during normal braking. The new option is exclusively available for the Juniper version—the updated Model Y from the 2026 model year onward.

According to Tesla, the function optimizes the electric car's behavior as it comes to a complete halt. The system smooths out deceleration, resulting in a softer, more comfortable stop for both the driver and passengers. Interestingly, the company hasn't specified the exact reason behind implementing this feature, as reported by SPEEDME.RU.

In daily driving, many Model Y owners rely heavily on regenerative braking and rarely use the brake pedal. The update is distributed over-the-air via OTA, a signature characteristic of Tesla vehicles. This approach allows the manufacturer to add new features and enhance car performance without requiring a service center visit.

Previously, Tesla has used similar updates to adjust regenerative braking settings, improve the Full Self-Driving system, update steering algorithms, and reduce cabin noise levels.

Tesla continues to actively develop its vehicles through software updates. Features like these underscore how modern cars are increasingly becoming software products that can significantly improve even years after purchase.
