Chinese automaker Chery considers launching a new full-size SUV on a hybrid platform in Australia, alongside a diesel-electric pickup arriving in fall 2026.

Chinese automaker Chery is considering the launch of a new full-size SUV, built on an entirely new platform with the potential for a hybrid powertrain. This model will target the Australian market.

Company officials are currently cautious in commenting on the vehicle's prospects, avoiding direct comparisons with established competitors like the Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Great Wall Motor (GWM) Tank 500, and Denza B5.

First, another Chery project will debut: the brand's first-ever double-cab pickup, designed for Australia. It will arrive there in fall 2026 under the code KP31.

Initially, the pickup will be offered only with a diesel-electric plug-in hybrid system, with a gasoline version to follow later. The diesel variant is primarily intended for heavy-duty use, such as cargo transport and towing, while the gasoline engine will be better suited for highway driving.
