Renault and Spain discuss the future of local plants, state support and a 2027–2028 launch of three electric SUVs in Palencia on AmpR Medium with 800V tech.

Renault CEO François Provost met with Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sánchez to discuss the future of the brand’s Spanish plants and state support for the auto industry. The company currently operates three facilities in Palencia, Valladolid and Seville, where a Re-Factory center focused on refurbishing and recycling components was recently established. The agenda put Spain’s role in Renault’s footprint squarely on the table.

The meeting also included Industry Minister Jordi Hereu and Renault España president Josep Maria Recasens. The Spanish government reaffirmed its readiness to continue supporting the sector through recovery programs and investment in electric-vehicle projects.

According to media reports, Renault plans to launch production of three fully electric SUVs in Palencia on the new AmpR Medium platform in 2027–2028. These would be future versions of the Scenic, Austral and Rafale, slated to adopt an 800-volt architecture, a new Valeo electric motor and cobalt-free LXMO batteries. Taken together, the plan sketches a clear next step for Renault’s EV push in Spain.
