JBD's Griffin platform projects visual cues onto roads using MicroLED tech. Features include animations and warnings to improve safety for pedestrians and drivers.

JBD has unveiled a new automotive projection platform called Griffin, based on MicroLED technology. Designed for next-generation vehicles, this system can project various visual elements directly onto the road surface or around the car.

Developers say the technology transforms the area surrounding a vehicle into a kind of digital canvas. It can display owner greeting animations, warning signals for pedestrians, and other visual cues to enhance road safety.

The first product from this platform will be the Griffin I projector. It features a MicroLED panel measuring just 0.25 inches and delivers up to 500 lumens of light output. Its compact size allows integration into mirrors, doors, or other body elements.

Samples of the new technology are expected to become available to automakers by mid-2026. Such solutions are gradually becoming part of modern vehicles, where digital interfaces are extending beyond the cabin and starting to interact with the environment.

External projection technology could mark a new phase in automotive interface development. If automakers actively adopt these solutions, cars could literally communicate with pedestrians and other drivers, improving road safety.
