Toyota recalls 86 2026 Corolla vehicles due to missing headlight markings, posing safety risks. Learn about the recall details, causes, and free repairs.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing has announced a recall of 86 Toyota Corolla vehicles from the 2026 model year in the United States. According to journalists at 32CARS, the recall stems from a non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, which governs lighting equipment. On some of these vehicles, the required optical axis marking on the front headlight lens is missing. This marking is essential for proper headlight adjustment during service.

Although the headlights were correctly adjusted at the factory, the absence of this marking could lead to improper adjustment later on. Incorrect adjustment presents two potential issues: reduced visibility for the driver or excessive glare for oncoming traffic. Both factors increase the risk of an accident.

The problem was identified in November 2025 during an internal audit at the manufacturing plant. The investigation revealed that supplier North American Lighting, after a change in tooling, began producing headlights without the required marking. Toyota promptly halted vehicle shipments and conducted an inspection, but some cars had already been sold.

As part of the recall, dealers will replace both front headlights free of charge with correct versions that have the necessary markings. Dealer notifications were sent on February 25, 2026, and owners will receive letters between April 12 and April 26.

Despite the extremely small number of vehicles involved—just 86 units—Toyota proceeded with an official recall, emphasizing that even a formal non-compliance with safety requirements demands immediate correction.
