Consumer Reports ranks the best winter tires for ice and snow: Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 leads, with Continental VikingContact 7 and Michelin X-Ice Snow behind.

U.S. outlet Consumer Reports has published its ranking of the best winter tires for ice and snow. Leading the list are Finland’s Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5, which earned high marks for grip and low noise. Their compound uses microcrystals that act like built-in studs, and Silent Touch technology to reduce vibration. That top spot feels well deserved considering the blend of traction and refinement.

In second place are the Continental VikingContact 7. The German maker employs an innovative compound with canola oil and silica, helping the tire stay flexible and maintain secure traction on cold surfaces.

Completing the top three is Michelin X-Ice Snow. The French tire stands out for its low rolling resistance and composed, comfortable behavior on the highway.

Experts note that choosing quality winter tires is a key factor for safety and for saving fuel, especially for vehicles aiming to keep efficiency up when temperatures drop.
