BMW's iX3 M electric SUV, with up to 1000 hp and 108.7 kWh battery, launches in 2027 on the Neue Klasse platform. Learn about its advanced torque-vectoring and 400 kW charging.

BMW is continuing development of the high-performance electric crossover iX3 M. A prototype was spotted during winter testing in northern Sweden. This model will be the first battery-powered SUV from BMW's M division built on the Neue Klasse platform.

According to preliminary reports, the iX3 M could feature four electric motors—two per axle—with individual torque control for each wheel. The front axle will be fully disconnectable. This setup enables an advanced torque-vectoring system and is expected to significantly alter the vehicle's handling characteristics. Insider sources suggest total output could approach 1,000 horsepower.

The battery is anticipated to have a capacity of 108.7 kWh. An 800-volt architecture will support charging at up to 400 kW. Range will be lower than the iX3 50 xDrive (which BMW claims can achieve up to 800 km), but the M version prioritizes performance over maximum distance.

Visually, the prototype stands out with larger wheels, an upgraded braking system, and revised bumpers. Inside, expect a sport steering wheel and signature M-branded elements. The model is scheduled for launch in 2027 and may complement the lineup of 2026 sports cars in the electric crossover segment.
