Mercedes-Benz recalls 117 electric eSprinter vans in the US due to reverse sound below federal standards. Free software update fixes the issue for pedestrian safety.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 117 electric eSprinter vans from the 2025 model year in the United States due to non-compliance with a federal standard on minimum sound levels for pedestrians. The issue stems from the reverse signal being too quiet.

Regulations require a minimum sound level of 48 decibels. Below that threshold, there is an increased risk that pedestrians might not hear an approaching vehicle.

The problem affects vehicles produced between December 18, 2024, and May 27, 2025, for the North American market. Production takes place in North Charleston, South Carolina. The company identified the deviation during a routine quality check in April 2025, which was part of software development processes.

Dealers will receive instructions by February 27, 2026. Owners will get a free software update for the acoustic vehicle alerting system. A corrected software version has been implemented in production since May 28, 2025.
