Learn about the Volvo XC70 plug-in hybrid, its specs, pricing in Europe, and features like up to 180 km electric range and 1,000+ km total range.

Volvo is bringing the XC70 plug-in hybrid to the European market. The model debuted in 2025 and is already on sale in China starting at around €51,000. Pricing for Germany has not been announced yet.

At 4.82 meters long, the XC70 slots between the XC60 and XC90. This crossover targets families with a spacious boot capacity of up to 1,456 liters. Inside, you'll find a digital instrument cluster and a large central screen, both finished in Volvo's signature Scandinavian style.

The XC70 is built on the new SMA platform. The base version comes with a 21 kWh battery, offering an electric range of up to 100 km. A higher-spec model features a 40 kWh battery and can travel up to 180 km without using the combustion engine, based on the Chinese test cycle. For Europe, these figures are expected to be 10–15% lower.

All variants use a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 156 hp, paired with an electric motor. Combined output is either 234 kW or 340 kW. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.0 or 5.3 seconds, with top speed capped at 180 km/h.

Thanks to a 60-liter fuel tank, the total driving range exceeds 1,000 km. Charging to 80% under optimal conditions takes about 23 minutes. The XC70 complements Volvo's 2026 lineup, offering a middle ground between traditional hybrids and fully electric models.
