Japanese company Direct Cars has developed a compact camper called the Dune Rover, based on the Daihatsu Hijet mini-truck. This project shows that even a kei truck can be transformed into a fully functional travel camper.

How the Mini Camper is Designed

Despite its compact size, the interior features two sleeping areas: a double bed above the cab and a convertible zone from the dining block. Equipment includes a mini-kitchen with a sink, a 35-liter refrigerator, a microwave, and an air conditioner. System controls are managed through a separate panel, and USB ports are provided for charging devices.

Technology and Autonomy

The Dune Rover comes with a lithium battery, which can be supplemented with solar panels if needed. This allows the main functions to be used without an external power connection. However, the cabin lacks a shower and toilet—a compromise due to the kei truck's dimensions.

Price and Versions

The fully equipped version is priced at approximately $45,800. For urban use, a Plat modification is available, featuring an expanded kitchen area and a side entrance. Its price starts from 4.39 million yen, equivalent to about 2.2 million rubles.
