Genesis GV70 named best mid-size SUV in 2026 awards

The Genesis GV70 has outshone its rivals to claim the title of best mid-size SUV under $90,000 in the Drive Car of the Year 2026 awards. This marks the model's second consecutive win, following its triumph last year.

Experts praised the vehicle's superb balance of handling, comfort, and performance, highlighting Genesis's edge over European competitors. In their view, most European alternatives either fall short on driving dynamics or cost significantly more, losing the value-for-money advantage.

Contenders in this segment included the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC, but all proved less compelling compared to the GV70. For instance, the base Mercedes-Benz GLC was criticized for its underpowered engine and sluggish performance, which dampened the overall driving experience.

The premium Chinese electric vehicle Zeekr 7X also drew attention for its impressive electric powertrain specs and substantial range. However, testers noted issues with suspension tuning and door design that caused dissatisfaction and impacted the final score. Ultimately, even the brand's innovative features couldn't offset these practical shortcomings.
