General Motors to shut down NGI app catalog for 2017–2020 models on September 30, 2025
General Motors will shut down the NGI app catalog on September 30, 2025, ending downloads for 2017–2020 Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC vehicles. Apps stay.
General Motors has announced it will end support for apps on vehicles running older versions of its NGI (Next Generation Infotainment) system, built from 2017 through 2020—a reminder that in-car software has a shelf life. As a result, the online catalog used to download and update software through the vehicle’s onboard system will stop functioning starting September 30, 2025.
Any apps previously downloaded by owners will continue to operate unless the owner deletes them manually or performs a full factory reset of the multimedia system. After such an action, access to those apps cannot be restored, as the app store has been shut down for good.
This limitation covers Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles produced within that timeframe. For those models, the ability to expand the infotainment system by adding new apps or getting current updates for existing services comes to an end, effectively locking in the feature set going forward.
