Ford recalls 2020 Escape over rear brake pad defect

Ford is recalling 13,451 2020 Escape crossovers for out-of-spec rear brake pads that may reduce braking efficiency. Free repairs; owners should act promptly.
Ford Motor is recalling certain 2020 Escape crossovers over a potential deterioration in brake performance. The campaign covers 13,451 vehicles built between November 2 and December 22, 2020.
The company notes that, in some Escapes from this period, the rear brake pads may have been manufactured out of spec, which can reduce overall braking efficiency.
When braking effectiveness drops, drivers may have to press the pedal harder, and stopping distances can grow—an obvious uptick in crash risk. In real-world terms, any shift in pedal feel immediately erodes driver confidence, especially in everyday stop-and-go traffic.
Ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries tied to this potential defect. All necessary service work to remedy the issue will be completed free of charge for affected owners. The narrow production window hints that the problem is contained, but owners should still act promptly when recall notices arrive.
