Volkswagen ID. Polo R-Line electric hatchback spotted in winter tests, featuring sporty design, rear disc brakes, and a 211-hp powertrain. Expected debut in 2025.
Volkswagen is in the final stages of fine-tuning its new electric hatchback, and recent winter photos have confirmed the existence of a previously unannounced version. This is the ID. Polo R-Line, a variant set to fill the niche below the GTI as a sporty offering and become one of the most popular packages in the lineup.
Two prototypes, one white and one black, were spotted on Swedish roads. Both feature camouflage on the front bumper, hiding more aggressive styling elements. The LED headlights show only daytime running lights that also function as turn signals, while the central light bar is completely covered.
The white car rides on familiar 17-inch wheels, while the black one has non-factory 18-inch aerodynamic wheels with a copper finish. These clearly reveal rear disc brakes—a significant detail because the ID. Polo family will be the first on the MEB platform to move away from rear drum brakes.

The rear shows vertical reflectors and an enlarged spoiler, typical R-Line traits. The spoiler itself is hidden under black vinyl, hinting at a fixed panoramic roof. Inside, a 13-inch central display is visible through the windshield, an element confirmed by official brand teasers.
Both prototypes carried three people, indicating tests for energy efficiency and comfort in real-world conditions. VW engineers are evaluating suspension performance under load, aiming to balance sporty firmness with everyday softness.
According to preliminary information, the R-Line will primarily pair with a 211-horsepower powertrain and a 52 kWh battery, offering around 430 km of range. The ID. Polo series is expected to debut after the Cupra Raval and its Czech counterpart, likely in the summer, with sales possibly starting before year-end, though deliveries will extend into 2027.
