Nissan explores importing Chinese models like the Frontier pickup and electric sedans to Europe, aiming to improve profitability and compete with rivals like Ford by 2026.

Nissan is actively exploring strategies to improve its challenging financial position in Europe. Beyond strengthening its partnership with Renault, the company is considering introducing models originally designed for the Chinese market to Europe. Mazda has previously adopted a similar approach.

Nissan's CEO, Ivan Espinosa, emphasized that boosting profitability takes precedence over merely increasing sales volume. According to Automotive News, one potential move involves importing the Frontier pickup, developed in collaboration with Chinese partner Dongfeng. A plug-in hybrid version could position it as a competitor to the Ford Ranger.

The company is also evaluating other models from its Chinese portfolio. In China, Nissan recently launched the electric sedans N6 and N7, along with the large SUV NX8. Company leadership believes vehicles developed for the Chinese market could bolster Nissan's standing in Europe and help the brand align with anticipated demand for new vehicles by 2026.

Final decisions on launching these models in Europe are pending, but Nissan is openly considering this scenario as a potential path to regaining competitiveness.
