Renault plans two new electric vehicles, the Scenic and Rafale, on an 800-volt platform with fast charging. Production starts in Spain in 2028, boosting its European EV lineup.

Renault is preparing a major shift toward electric vehicles, with its Palencia plant in Spain set to produce two new models on the second-generation AmpR Medium platform from 2028. Both vehicles will feature an 800-volt system, enabling charging from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes—a key advantage for Renault's future European lineup.

The first model to enter production will be the new Renault Scenic, a crossover around 4.5 meters long. It will be available as a pure electric version and as a range-extender variant. This EREV version uses a 1.5 C15 gasoline engine from the Renault-Geely Horse Powertrain joint venture, acting as a generator to create a "super-hybrid" aimed at long-distance travel with minimal fuel consumption.

The second model will be the new Rafale, a coupe-crossover about 4.7 meters long that will abandon internal combustion engines entirely. It will replace the current Rafale and serve as the flagship of Renault's electric range. Rumors of a third electric car—a seven-seat successor to the Espace—remain unconfirmed, as it does not appear in plans published by La Tribuna de Automoción.

Additional production at Palencia could reach up to 184,000 vehicles annually, with around 130,000 units for the Scenic and the remainder for the Rafale. Meanwhile, Renault is preparing an update for the Austral, which will maintain its relevance through an upgraded hybrid powertrain.

The new Scenic and Rafale will be central to Renault's strategy for expanding its electric lineup and localizing production in Europe—a move that strengthens the brand's position amid the accelerating electrification of the market.
