Jaguar stops selling new petrol cars in Australia, focuses on electric vehicles
Jaguar will halt new petrol car sales in Australia by Dec 31, 2025, moving to electric models like the upcoming GT with over 735 kW power. Learn about the brand's reboot and future plans.
Jaguar has announced it will stop selling new petrol-powered cars in Australia on December 31, 2025. Showrooms will only carry "Approved Used" vehicles with up to 50 km on the clock, which are not technically considered new. Production of the internal combustion engine lineup has already ended, with the final car—a black F-Pace SVR with a V8—destined for the Jaguar Heritage Trust collection.
The brand's sales in Australia plummeted to just 520 units in 2025, marking its worst performance in 29 years. The I-Pace is no longer sold as new, and the price positioning of future electric vehicles is shifting toward the $300,000 mark by local standards. For now, dealers will rely on Land Rover, which sold 8,339 vehicles.
Jaguar is preparing for a radical reboot, with its first new model being a four-seat electric GT based on the Type 00 concept. According to previously published data, it will produce over 735 kW of power and 1,300 Nm of torque, while a roughly 120 kWh battery should deliver up to 692 km on the WLTP cycle. At around 5.2 meters long, its dimensions are comparable to a Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
In the UK, prices are expected to range from £117,000 to £120,000, with top versions reaching up to £150,000. In Australia, the starting price is likely to approach $300,000. The debut is promised for summer 2026, with European deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2027. Jaguar Australia confirms the new EV lineup will arrive in the local market, with timing details to be announced later.
