Volvo EX60 electric crossover debut with spinning wheel effect

Volvo EX60 electric crossover debut features spinning wheel effect volvocars.com

Learn about the Volvo EX60 electric crossover's debut, where custom wheels created an unusual spinning effect for show purposes only, not for production.

At the global debut of the new Volvo EX60 electric crossover, spectators were surprised by an unusual effect: the wheels appeared to spin faster than the car was moving, and sometimes continued rotating even when the vehicle came to a complete stop. Volvo clarified that this was not a malfunction or anomaly, but rather a specially designed element of the show.

The company released a video explaining the demonstration wheels' mechanism. The rims fitted to the EX60 were custom-made for the presentation and will not be available as accessories, standard equipment, or optional extras.

According to Volvo, these are not alloy wheels but steel ones, housing controllers along with new brushless electric motors and power sources. These components drove aerodynamic hubcaps, allowing precise control over their rotation speed. The system reportedly operated using a 12-volt battery.

Volvo also emphasized that the solution has no practical benefit—it was created solely to attract attention, making it unlikely to enter series production.
