Chery Australia explores new affordable EVs, including compact hatchbacks and sedans, to expand its lineup and appeal to budget-conscious drivers in Australia.

The Australian division of Chinese automaker Chery has expressed interest in launching new affordable electric vehicles. According to Lucas Harris, the division's director, the company is carefully exploring ways to expand its offerings for EV buyers, with several promising new models under consideration.

Potential additions for the Australian market could include compact city hatchbacks and small family sedans. These vehicles would complement the brand's existing lineup and help reach a broader audience of drivers looking for economical transportation.

Harris also highlighted the company's focus on Chinese developments in eco-friendly transport, noting the popularity of large budget sedans like the Fulwin model equipped with the innovative Super Hybrid system. This approach combines the benefits of electric drive and internal combustion engines, delivering an optimal balance of performance, environmental friendliness, and fuel efficiency.

Additionally, Chery representatives are considering producing a next-generation small city hatchback—an updated version of the previously popular QQ3 model. The new version will feature a fresh, modern design and a rear-mounted electric motor, making the car more maneuverable and convenient for urban use.

However, no final decision has been made regarding the production and sale of these vehicles. Everything will depend on the final analysis of potential demand in the Australian market and the corresponding decision from the company's senior management.
