Toyota recalls 161,268 Tundra pickups from 2024-2025 models due to a software glitch in the parking assistance unit. Learn about the fix and impact.

Toyota is recalling 161,268 Tundra pickups manufactured from August 2023 to June 2025 due to a software glitch in the parking assistance control unit. The issue involves the multimedia screen, which may freeze on the camera feed or shut down completely.

This mass recall affects 2024 and 2025 models produced at the Texas plant. The error in the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system, responsible for providing a 360-degree view, was first identified in March 2025. An investigation conducted in collaboration with supplier Magna Electronics revealed a fault in the parking assistance unit's software code.

The update will be performed via the OBD-II port, as Toyota has not yet implemented full over-the-air (OTA) update capability for critical components. Dealers were notified on January 23, but owners will start receiving letters between March 10 and March 24, 2026.

Despite this setback, the Tundra remains one of the brand's best-selling pickups, ending 2025 with 147,610 units sold in the U.S. While the problem appears to be software-based and easily fixable, Toyota's lack of OTA updates is surprising for 2026. The scale of this recall highlights that integrating modern software into vehicles requires not just features, but also the supporting infrastructure.
