Tesla enables V2L on Model Y L in China via software update, plus Dog Mode tweaks, low-charge alerts and Rave Cave additions. Turn your EV into backup power.

Tesla has enabled external device power for the Model Y L crossover. The new Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability arrives with software version 2025.32.300, which is rolling out to cars in China.

With V2L, Model Y L owners can use their EV to run household appliances, power tools, or even lend a charge to other electric vehicles. The feature requires a dedicated adapter that Tesla will release later, effectively turning the car into a flexible backup power source when needed.

Beyond V2L, the update adds a lower minimum temperature setting in Dog Mode, configurable low-charge alerts, and expanded personalization options for the Rave Cave multimedia mode. These are modest quality-of-life tweaks, but together they make daily use feel more accommodating.

Model Y L is gaining traction in China: 8,221 units were sold in September, placing it fourth among midsize SUVs. With steady software updates and fresh features, Tesla is strengthening its position among new cars and going toe to toe with local brands such as Xiaomi and Li Auto—an approach that helps sustain momentum in a crowded segment.
