Toyota EV battery warranty extended to 10 years or 1 million kilometers

Toyota has extended the battery warranty for its electric models, now offering coverage of up to 10 years or 1 million kilometers, provided maintenance conditions are met. This additional warranty kicks in after the standard factory warranty of 5 years or 100,000 kilometers expires.

The extended warranty applies to the Urban Cruiser, C-HR+, bZ4X, bZ4X Touring, and Hilux models. A key requirement is regular servicing at an official Toyota dealer or a repair facility authorized by the brand. An exception is made for the electric commercial ProAce, which has a mileage limit set at 300,000 kilometers.

Toyota also specifies the terms for battery degradation. The standard warranty covers this for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers, but with proper maintenance, it can be extended to match the 10-year or 1-million-kilometer limit. In this case, protection is provided against capacity dropping below 70% of the battery's net useful capacity.

This move could boost buyer confidence in the brand's electric vehicles. In practice, it highlights Toyota's commitment to addressing common concerns about EV battery longevity, which matters for consumers considering a switch to electric.
