DS Automobiles launches the DS № 7 electric crossover with up to 740 km WLTP range, competing with Audi and Mercedes. Learn about its design, charging, and versions.

On February 1st, DS Automobiles will unveil the second generation of the DS 7, now rebranded as the № 7. The electric version promises up to 740 km of range according to the realistic WLTP European cycle, placing it ahead of the Audi Q6 e-tron and Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ. The model is built on the STLA Medium platform, which also underpins the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, so a wide range of powertrains is expected, from hybrids and PHEVs to fully electric variants.

Electric Strategy and Range

Following the approach of the DS № 8, developers have focused on extended range: the № 7 falls just 10 km short of its larger sibling and significantly outperforms the Q6 e-tron (660 km WLTP) and GLC EQ (713 km WLTP).

This result is achieved through aerodynamic features like flush door handles, a smoothly sloping roofline, a compact spoiler, and optimized body contours. Prototypes spotted in camouflage already display the number "740" on the doors—a signature DS hint at the driving range.

Design and Positioning

The new № 7 will visually follow the № 8's line, with vertical daytime running lights, a distinctive illuminated grille, and a dynamic profile. It remains unclear whether the model will stay "cross-segment," like the previous DS 7, or move into the full D-class, where its direct competitors would be electric crossovers from Audi and Mercedes. In any case, the emphasis will be on long-distance travel, which aligns with its performance in traction tests.

Technology and Charging Architecture

Unlike its German rivals, the DS № 7 will retain a 400-volt architecture. This means more standard charging speeds: roughly 20–80% in 27 minutes. For comparison, the Audi Q6 achieves this in 21 minutes, and the GLC EQ in 22.

The BMW iX3 and Volvo EX60 continue to lead in both range and charging speed. However, DS is expected to be noticeably cheaper than the German models, which could be a decisive factor in the premium segment.

Versions

Like the DS № 8, the crossover will offer three electric configurations: a base version with a 230 hp motor and a 74 kWh battery, a Long Range model with 242 hp and 97 kWh, and an all-wheel-drive variant with two motors totaling 349 hp. Maximum charging power will remain at 160 kW, keeping it competitive in the market's fast-charging standards.
