Year-one luxury car resale: Discovery Sport tops, Porsche and Mercedes follow
iSeeCars analyzed 18.5M sales: nearly 30% of Land Rover Discovery Sport owners resell within a year. Porsche, Mercedes, Jaguar lead luxury churn; avg 3.6%.
An iSeeCars study found that owners of upscale models often part with them within the very first year. Leading the pack is the Land Rover Discovery Sport: nearly 30% of its owners put the car back on the market. The Porsche Macan comes next, followed by the Mercedes-Benz GLB, CLA, and GLA.
The top ten also includes the Land Rover Evoque, Discovery, BMW 5-Series, and Jaguar F-Pace. For context, the industry average is just 3.6%, while the share among luxury brands is noticeably higher.
Looking at brands, Porsche sits at the top for repeat sales with 16%, trailed by Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Land Rover. Analysts tie the pattern to steep ownership costs and buyers’ shifting preferences. The findings are based on 18.5 million transactions.
The roster itself hints at why churn is so high: compact luxury crossovers dominate, drawing buyers with design and tech, yet a year of real-world use can cool the initial excitement when maintenance bills and the lure of the next new thing enter the equation.
