Bugatti CEO explains hypercar maintenance and safety concerns
Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac clarifies rumors about high maintenance costs, discusses repair policies after accidents, and emphasizes safety as the top priority for hypercars.
Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac has addressed rumors about "astronomical" maintenance costs for hypercars and explained why the company doesn't support owner repairs after serious accidents. He stated that exaggerated figures often circulate online—for instance, a Chiron headlight costs around €25,000 (2.23 million rubles), not €150,000 (13.6 million rubles).
Rimac also commented on the case involving blogger Mat Armstrong, who purchased a wrecked Bugatti Chiron and claimed the brand doesn't sell parts and inflates prices. According to Rimac, Bugatti offered support and even options to reduce repair costs, but the blogger allegedly refused.
Safety is Bugatti's primary concern. Rimac cited an example with a passenger airbag: testing revealed that at -18 degrees Celsius, the leather on the cover changes properties, which could prevent the airbag from deploying. He also noted that even similar parts with identical numbers can perform differently.
Rimac acknowledged that maintenance remains expensive, though not always "obscene." Oil changes are required annually or every 9,000 miles (approximately 14,500 kilometers). For the first four years, service is included in the purchase price.
