Hyundai ends i10 production for Europe, shifts to electric vehicles
Hyundai has stopped i10 hatchback production in Europe, with no direct successor planned. The electric Inster now serves as the entry-level model.
Hyundai has stopped production of the i10 hatchback for the European market. Official factory orders for the model have ended, though vehicles from existing dealer stock are still available in the UK. The freed-up capacity at the company's plant in Turkey is planned for use in future electric vehicle production.
Since its introduction to the British market in 2008, the Hyundai i10 has sold over 370,000 units. Despite this success, the brand does not intend to release a direct successor to this small petrol model in the near future. As a new entry-level option in the lineup, buyers are being offered the Hyundai Inster electric car, which costs approximately £5,500 more.
In the UK, the base i10 is priced at £18,350. The model remains one of the most affordable options for a new car, thanks to its warranty and low running costs. Against the backdrop of tightening regulations in Europe, this segment of small cars is shrinking. Among petrol-powered city models, only the Kia Picanto remains on sale.
