Volkswagen Multivan: the 245-hp AWD hybrid costs more and seats fewer than the diesel

Volkswagen has priced the updated Multivan: a €55,089 TDI diesel with eight seats, and a €62,492 eHybrid 4MOTION plug-in hybrid with 245 hp and no all-wheel-drive eight-seat option.
First prices for the updated Volkswagen Multivan reveal its biggest trade-off: buyers must choose between eight seats and a hybrid all-wheel-drive system. The new eight-seat layout is reserved for the diesel version, while the eHybrid 4MOTION is built for drivers who charge regularly and don’t need maximum capacity.
In Sweden, the Multivan TDI 150 in Life trim is priced at €55,089 before discounts. The front-wheel-drive van uses a 150-hp diesel engine paired with a DSG gearbox. It’s the only version offered with the eight-seat layout, where passengers in the two rear rows can face each other.
The plug-in hybrid eHybrid 4MOTION starts at €62,492 in Trend trim. The system combines a 1.5 TSI turbo petrol engine with two electric motors for a combined 245 hp. A 19.7 kWh usable battery delivers nearly 100 km of electric range. Once depleted, the front motor can act as a generator, powering the rear electric axle and keeping all-wheel drive available.

The Multivan will still come in two body lengths, 4,970 mm and 5,170 mm. The cabin gets a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, illuminated touch controls, 25W wireless phone charging, and USB-C ports rated up to 60W. The DSG shifter has moved to the steering column, freeing up space on the center console.
European launch is expected in October 2026. For families that take frequent long trips, the diesel looks more practical thanks to its eight seats and independence from charging infrastructure. The hybrid makes sense only with daily charging — without it, owners end up hauling a heavy battery without ever using its main advantage.
