Chevy Tahoe and Suburban: next in line for GM's new 5.7L and 6.6L V8s?

The 2027 Silverado 1500 debuts with two new naturally aspirated V8s — and Tahoe and Suburban could be next in line to receive them.
Industry watchers are asking whether the 2027 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban will get the new naturally aspirated V8s. The question follows the debut of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which has been confirmed with two fresh engines — a 5.7-liter V8 and a 6.6-liter V8. There’s no official word yet on the Tahoe or Suburban.
The logic behind the speculation is straightforward. Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, GMC Sierra, Yukon and Cadillac Escalade all sit on the same GM full-size architecture, and engines tend to migrate between the pickups and the SUVs. The current Tahoe and Suburban currently offer a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8 and the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel. So in time, the new 5.7 and 6.6 could replace today’s gasoline V8s in Chevy’s big SUVs.
GM is already pouring serious money into the sixth-generation V8 family. The automaker has announced investments in production of the new engines for its full-size pickups and SUVs, including the Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL. Assembly is being spread across three sites — Flint Engine Operations in Michigan, Tonawanda Propulsion in New York and St. Catharines Propulsion in Canada.
The key catch for buyers is timing. The 2027 Silverado is the first vehicle to get the new V8s, while the Tahoe and Suburban were updated relatively recently and will most likely receive the engines later, with the next major refresh of the lineup. So claiming that the 2027 Chevrolet Tahoe will definitely make the jump to the 5.7- and 6.6-liter motors is still premature.
