Ford to discontinue the Focus in 2025 as EVs take priority

Ford will end Focus production on November 21, 2025, closing the Saarlouis plant as it shifts to EVs and crossovers. A new compact successor due from 2027.

Ford is preparing to part ways with one of its most successful nameplates, the Focus. The compact model, a mainstay across several generations, will reach the end of the line on November 21, 2025. The decision follows the company’s EV-focused strategy and a shift in priorities toward models like the Kuga and Puma.

Over its lifetime, the Focus earned a reputation as one of the standouts in its class. It proved itself both in performance-oriented versions such as the Focus ST and in the mainstream trims that helped Ford capture a considerable share of the market. Ending production, despite that popularity, is a pragmatic move that underscores the brand’s commitment to electric vehicles and crossovers.

The farewell also brings the closure of the Saarlouis plant, which has built more than six million units of the model since 1998. Ford plans a new compact crossover that could take the Focus’s place, though it isn’t expected before 2027. The timeline hints at a deliberate pause as the company reshapes its lineup.

The end of Focus production is a symbolic moment for Ford and could influence the brand’s standing among top cars in Europe, where competition with rivals such as Volkswagen and Peugeot is growing tougher. It’s a turning point that reflects the market’s new direction—and one that will be watched closely.
