Ford confirms plans for a European Bronco SUV in 2027, built on the C2 platform with hybrid variants. It will compete with models like Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Ford has confirmed plans to launch a new European SUV in 2027. Hints from company CEO Jim Farley suggest the model will almost certainly bear the legendary Bronco name and become a key competitor to the Skoda Kodiaq.

American Character for the European Market

The new SUV will be built on the C2 platform, shared with the Ford Kuga. This continues Ford's strategy of strengthening its lineup with rugged, visually "American" vehicles. The design for the European Bronco will be completely original, featuring a two-box profile, vertical lines, and off-road motifs inspired by the heritage of the original Bronco. This will make it a stylistic counterpoint to the softer, more streamlined Kuga.

Technical Features and Role in the Lineup

The new model will offer hybrid and REx variants, but Ford has already confirmed there will be no pure electric version, as demand for EVs in Europe has been lower than expected. Production will be set up in Valencia, alongside the Kuga. Positioned as a mainstream C-segment vehicle with a focus on practicality, this move will help Ford compensate for weak sales of the Capri and Explorer EV models.

Market Significance and Competition

The new Bronco will serve as a tool for Ford to regain market share in Europe. It will compete with the Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Skoda Kodiaq, as well as the Jeep Compass—another crossover with an off-road image. The model's success is critical: the C-SUV segment remains the largest in Europe, and Ford has long needed a standout, mass-market product.
