Ram returns to the midsize pickup segment in 2027 with an all-new 2028 truck built in Toledo, featuring a dedicated body-on-frame platform to rival Ranger.

Ram is preparing a return to the midsize pickup segment with an all-new model scheduled to debut in 2027 as a 2028 model-year truck. Production will be set up at Stellantis’s Toledo plant in Ohio, the same facility that builds the Jeep Wrangler.

The project was initially planned to be based on the Jeep Gladiator and produced in Illinois; now, however, the pickup is set to use its own body-on-frame platform and a unique body design. Mopar Insiders reports that pilot builds will begin in March 2027, with series production coming toward the end of the year.

Stellantis is investing about $400 million to modernize the plant, which is expected to turn out up to 100,000 vehicles annually. Around 900 jobs will be created, with the company focusing first on bringing laid-off employees back.

The new Ram will target the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, and GMC Canyon, promising a blend of toughness, off-road talent, and everyday utility. A dedicated frame and bespoke bodywork hint that Ram is chasing capability and character rather than a quick parts-bin solution—exactly what tends to resonate with midsize truck buyers.
