BMW and MINI have reaffirmed their edge not only in engineering, but also in digital services. According to the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. OEM ICE App Report, the My BMW app took the top spot among luxury brands, while MINI led the mass-market segment for owner satisfaction.

J.D. Power analysts reviewed 32 automaker-branded apps designed for internal-combustion vehicles sold in the U.S. The survey ran in fall 2025 and reached more than 2,100 owners, who rated ease of use, reliability, feature breadth, and overall experience.

My BMW outpaced rivals such as Genesis and Mercedes-Benz with a score of 821 out of 1,000. In the mass-market camp, MINI moved ahead of Kia and Hyundai, underscoring the brand’s serious push to build a cohesive digital ecosystem even in more attainable models. The study also flagged widespread pain points: nearly 38% of users gave up on apps due to connectivity issues. Even with trophies on the shelf, that number is a reality check.

Other common gripes included sluggish performance, unstable features, outdated information, and the hassle of managing access for multiple drivers. Still, about 80% of owners use their apps regularly, though only 27% open them nearly every trip. The features people come back to most are remote garage-door control, the digital key, seat heating and ventilation activation, door locking, and trunk operation. Interestingly, mass-market brand owners tend to use their apps more often than luxury buyers, and the most active users are EV owners.

The results suggest BMW and MINI have turned their apps into a genuine extension of the car rather than a box to tick. Yet there’s clear room to sharpen the experience—stability and snappy response remain the currency of digital leadership and will decide who stays ahead in the years to come.
