Bugatti ends Bolide production, closing the W16 chapter
Bugatti ends production of the Bolide, its 40-unit, track-only hypercar and one of the last W16s. Specs: 1,578 hp, 0-300 km/h in 11.5 s, 380 km/h top speed.
Bugatti has ended production of the Bolide, the track-only hypercar that not only caps a run of 40 cars but also stands as one of the final standard-bearers for the marque’s legendary quad‑turbo 8.0‑liter W16. For Molsheim, it’s a symbolic moment: the engine that shaped the brand’s identity for two decades is approaching its curtain call.
Conceived purely for the circuit, the Bolide was developed with Dallara engineers around a carbon chassis built to FIA standards for Le Mans prototypes. At roughly 1,450 kg and 1,578 hp, it posts startling figures: 0–300 km/h in 11.5 seconds, a 380 km/h top speed, and up to 2.5 g in corners. The numbers read less like marketing and more like a brief for chasing lap times.

All 40 cars were spoken for almost immediately, despite a starting price of $4.7 million. The final Bolide wears a bespoke livery, with shades of blue echoing the paint of the owner’s Bugatti Type 35—an elegant nod to the brand’s racing heritage. As is customary, the buyer’s identity remains undisclosed.
While the Bolide is among the last W16 machines, the definitive farewell will come from another model: the Mistral roadster, now in production. After that, the storied engine will belong to history.
