Tesla delays Cybertruck Powershare with Powerwall to mid-2026 to finish compatibility and grid-safety certification, aiming for reliable vehicle-to-home power.

Tesla has informed Cybertruck owners that the launch of Powershare with Powerwall is moving to mid-2026, a shift from the 2024 window. The feature was unveiled in 2023 as a capability unique to the pickup.

Powershare lets the Cybertruck’s battery serve as a power source for a home, household appliances, work tools, and even other electric vehicles. The system supports vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-home modes. When paired with a Powerwall, the stationary pack is tapped first before the truck’s battery steps in.

Tesla explained that the extra time is needed to validate compatibility across different Powerwall versions and wall connectors. The project’s chief engineer noted that the real challenge is synchronizing two independent power supplies without a grid connection while satisfying certification and grid-safety requirements. It underlines how intricate this kind of energy handoff can be, where dependable coordination matters more than rushing a release.

The delay has frustrated some owners, particularly Foundation Series buyers who expected the capability shortly after taking delivery. Even so, Tesla says development is ongoing and will become part of the 2026 vehicle ecosystem aimed at expanded energy functionality. The focus on compatibility and safety suggests a push for a more polished, tightly integrated setup rather than a stopgap.
