Ford eyes new Raptor models beyond pickups: Mustang, Everest, Super Duty
Ford is set to broaden its Raptor family globally, eyeing Mustang, Everest and Super Duty variants. See how off-road demand and Dakar efforts shape strategy.
Ford is preparing a broad expansion of the Raptor family. Executives openly acknowledge the brand sees considerable potential in building new extreme variants that reach beyond traditional pickups.
Ford’s ambitions for Raptor’s global expansion
Buoyed by the momentum of the F-150 Raptor, Bronco Raptor, and Ranger Raptor, the company is confident it can cover more segments. Ford Performance chief Will Ford said the brand intends to expand the lineup deliberately. The company is also competing in the Dakar Rally with four Raptor T1+ prototypes, further cementing Raptor’s image as a byword for off-road toughness and endurance.
Potential new models
A Mustang Raptor is being discussed—an idea that may sound unusual, yet it fits a clear market trend: demand for off-road-focused versions is outpacing interest in sports cars. Other strong candidates include the Expedition and heavy-duty Super Duty trucks, where the Raptor formula could be integrated relatively easily.
By contrast, the Bronco Sport, Maverick, and Explorer look less likely because their platforms would need fundamental changes. The most realistic candidate is the Everest SUV, which already offers a Tremor variant and shares a ladder frame with the Ranger—an advantage that lowers the barrier to a Raptor treatment.
What’s next for Ford
Expanding the Raptor range supports Ford’s shift away from unremarkable models. Extreme versions bring stronger margins, reinforce the brand’s off-road credentials, and help attract younger buyers. Ford Performance gains visibility in the process, while Raptor is steadily turning into a powerful global sub-brand.
Ford appears ready to turn Raptor into a full-fledged product ecosystem. New off-road derivatives will likely touch multiple nameplates, and the global push positions the brand as a key player in the segment of extreme SUVs and pickups.
