How the 2026 Lexus IS differs in Japan and the U.S.
See how the 2026 Lexus IS differs by market: Japan gets the hybrid IS300h, F Sport and TRD parts, while the U.S. sticks to a 311-hp V6 and fewer options.
Lexus keeps the IS in its lineup despite the pull of crossovers and EVs. The 2026 refresh makes one thing clear: the same sedan can land very differently depending on where it’s sold.
One Lexus IS, different approaches
In Japan, the updated IS arrives with a broader spread of versions and trims. The range includes the IS300h hybrid and special F Sport editions with wider personalization options. In the United States, the lineup is pared back to a single powertrain: a 311-hp naturally aspirated V6, with no alternatives and no hybrid on offer. The contrast is hard to miss—and the U.S. specification feels deliberately restrained.
Special editions and interior differences
Japan’s IS F Sport Mode Black V isn’t just about darker exterior details; it also brings a fully blacked-out cabin with Ultrasuede trim. The American Special Appearance package stops at cosmetic tweaks and doesn’t push the interior as far, which makes the overall execution feel less cohesive.
TRD advantage for Japan
The biggest split is the availability of TRD hardware. In Japan, the IS can be configured with a full suite of factory accessories: aero add-ons, sport exhausts, reinforced chassis components, dampers, and forged wheels.
All of it can be ordered directly, without turning to third-party tuners. In the U.S., Lexus doesn’t offer that kind of freedom—an approach that, intentionally or not, leaves the home market with deeper factory-backed customization.
