Top automaker market-cap rankings 2025: Tesla, Toyota, Xiaomi, BYD
2025 automaker market-cap rankings: Tesla leads, Toyota holds; Xiaomi and BYD stay top four. GM, Mercedes, BMW rise; Maruti joins. BYD tops Tesla in BEV sales.
The close of 2025 told a clear story: the summit of the market‑cap leaderboard held steady, while the order below it shifted in earnest. As of December 31, 2025, the top four stayed with Tesla, Toyota, Xiaomi, and BYD, and all four gained year over year. Tesla remained the most valuable automaker, Toyota kept second place, and Xiaomi with BYD held their ground in the top four, separated by only a small step.
The most notable moves came in the back half of the top ten. General Motors climbed to fifth, Mercedes‑Benz and BMW edged higher, and Volkswagen Group also advanced. Ferrari, by contrast, slipped, while Porsche had dropped out of the global top ten by year’s end. Maruti Suzuki India joined the ten as well, signaling that the center of gravity is spreading into new geographies.
Xiaomi’s arc helps explain why investors continue to trust tech companies’ automotive bets. CEO Lei Jun signaled a tighter management focus on the auto division in 2026 and set a delivery target of 550,000 cars, with 2025 assessed at more than 400,000 vehicles delivered. The tone is confident, and the ramp looks brisk.
BYD, meanwhile, is making its case through sheer volume: the company is growing NEV sales and, in 2025, surpassed Tesla in battery‑electric deliveries, with around 2.26 million BEVs versus roughly 1.64 million for Tesla. Scale remains BYD’s most persuasive argument—and investors tend to notice.
