Ford Bronco recall: SYNC rear camera bug in 2021–2022 models
Ford recalls 2021–2022 Bronco models after a SYNC bug keeps the rear camera image on screen. Owner notices start Feb 2026; VIN lookup goes live late Jan.
Ford has launched another recall of 2021 and 2022 Bronco models over a flaw in the SYNC infotainment system. The image from the rearview camera can remain on the display after reversing ends, a behavior that falls short of FMVSS No. 111.
The issue first surfaced in 2022, and the company addressed it with software updates installed by dealers or delivered over the air. In 2023, however, Ford determined that roughly 1,650 vehicles received incomplete or incorrect updates, triggering a fresh campaign; some dealers had mistakenly marked the fix as completed.
In December 2025, Ford confirmed yet another round aimed at the same fault. The affected vehicles are those with 8-inch displays; starting in 2024, the Bronco moved to a 12-inch screen to unify production. Owner notifications are planned for February 2026, with VIN lookup set to go live on Ford’s website in late January.
Despite the software stumble, the Bronco remains a force among body-on-frame off-roaders. Over the first nine months of 2025, U.S. sales exceeded 109,000 units. The Jeep Wrangler still leads on popularity, yet the Bronco holds its ground with its own strengths, including factory-fit 37-inch tires.
A recurring recall for a known problem inevitably tests brand goodwill. Ford is moving quickly, but the aftertaste of errant SYNC firmware can linger—especially when it touches a function drivers expect to work the same way every time.
