Turkey prolongs 6-month/6,000 km rule for used-car dealers through July 1, 2026
Turkey extends its used-car market curb—no sale before 6 months and 6,000 km—through July 1, 2026, and prolongs simplified licensing rules to April 1, 2026.
Turkey has once again extended one of the key curbs on the pre-owned car market. The policy applies to professional used-car traders and bars them from selling a vehicle until both six months have passed since first registration and the odometer shows at least 6,000 kilometers. The measure is now officially in force through July 1, 2026.
Officials present the approach as a way to counter speculative price spikes, deter stockpiling for quick resale, and reduce the risk of buyers overpaying. In practice, it slows rapid-fire deals and complicates short-cycle flipping, especially in the nearly new segment. The extension suggests regulators still prefer to steady the pace of transactions rather than let arbitrage set the tone.
At the same time, the regulator prolonged transitional relief around licensing paperwork for businesses. For certain companies, simplified application requirements will remain in place, with the deadline pushed back to April 1, 2026.
