Dongfeng M-Hero M817 PHEV hits 10,000; exports grow, Huawei ADS 4.0 leads
Dongfeng celebrates the 10,000th M-Hero M817 PHEV, an off-road SUV with Huawei ADS 4.0. Prices, specs, range, and Middle East exports as production scales.
Dongfeng has built the 10,000th M-Hero M817 PHEV: the milestone vehicle rolled off the line on December 26, just a few months after sales began in August. The company underscores its tech partnership with Huawei, describing the M-Hero M817 as the world’s first SUV equipped with the Huawei Qiankun ADS 4.0 advanced driving suite. In recent days, one M817 was delivered to Jin Yuzhi, who heads Huawei’s Intelligent Automotive Solution division. For a fresh entrant, that pace signals serious production intent.
In China, the model is offered in four trims priced at 301,900–369,900 yuan. At the same time, the brand is ramping up exports: the first batch of 400 vehicles left for the Middle East on December 16. A simultaneous push abroad hints at ambitions that reach well beyond the home market.
By format, this is a large off-roader: 5,100 mm long on a 3,005 mm wheelbase, with a claimed fording depth of up to 900 mm and a minimum turning radius of 3.5 m. The PHEV setup produces 505 kW (677 hp) and 848 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The top version promises up to 215 km of electric-only range on the CLTC cycle and up to 1,365 km combined, thanks to a 50.4 kWh CATL Freevoy battery. On paper, the numbers put capability and pace on equal footing.
Huawei ADS 4.0 relies on 27 sensors, including cameras, 4D radars, a 192-line lidar, and ultrasonic units; the automatic braking system is stated to operate at speeds up to 130 km/h. Inside, there’s a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 15.6-inch central display, a head-up display, HarmonySpace 5 smart infotainment, and even an integrated refrigerator. The spec sheet reads more like a tech showcase than a traditional rock-crawler, which increasingly defines the segment’s direction.
