Alpine's halo supercar strategy: Alpenglow, APP platform and a V6 hybrid

Alpine plans a halo supercar to lift the brand: Alpenglow concept as tech lab, APP platform for A110/A310, likely V6 hybrid, plus extreme limited editions.

Alpine is not letting go of its ambition to build a production supercar that would become a halo model and cap the brand’s expanding lineup. CEO Philippe Krief, who joined from Ferrari, says the thinking is that such a car is needed not only for outright speed, but to raise awareness, validate new technologies and, ideally, turn a profit. There is, however, a key caveat: even if a small team could develop the car relatively quickly, the company as an organization is not ready yet—above all in the standard of service and ownership experience supercar buyers expect. That measured stance makes sense; in this league, polish matters as much as performance.

For now, the technology showcase role is assigned to the Alpenglow concept. It will serve as a communications tool and a rolling laboratory for innovation. Alpine intends to carry its influence into mainstream models: future electric A110 and A310 variants will adopt design cues—especially the front end with a signature V-shaped nose and intricate lighting already previewed on the A390.

Underpinning the upcoming sports cars is the lightweight, modular APP platform. The priority in the next few years is electric power, though APP also accommodates hybrids. Krief has previously indicated that such a car would not be a pure EV; it would more likely be a non-plug-in V6 hybrid aimed at delivering more power without compromising driver appeal.

In the meantime, the most realistic next step is a run of extreme, limited editions with substantive engineering rather than cosmetic tweaks, following the pattern set by the A110 R Ultime. These projects are costlier and more niche, yet they can lift the reputation and sales of the rest of the range—and they give Alpine a way to show it is targeting top-tier execution. It’s a pragmatic way to build momentum while the true halo car takes shape.
