BYD Dolphin G plug-in hybrid targets Europe with 2026 launch
BYD's Europe-first Dolphin G plug-in hybrid arrives in 2026 with Hungarian production. Expected 1.5L engine, 18 kWh LFP battery and up to 90 km electric range.
Chinese carmaker BYD will broaden its European range in 2026 with the Dolphin G, a new plug-in hybrid, according to Autocar. The model is expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
The Dolphin G will be BYD’s first car conceived from the outset for European requirements rather than adapted from a China-market version. Production is set to be established at the company’s new factory in Hungary, now being readied, where the electric Dolphin Surf is also planned for assembly.
Early information points to a five-door hatchback about 4.3 meters long. A technical link with the BYD Atto 2 DM-i is not ruled out; if that proves true, the setup could combine a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, an electric motor, and an LFP battery of roughly 18 kWh. In a comparable configuration, total output reaches 212 hp and electric-only range comes in at around 90 km.
Final specifications remain undisclosed. BYD expects the Dolphin G to strengthen its position in Europe and occupy the budget plug-in hybrid niche, where demand continues to grow. The timing looks well-judged: a Europe-focused model with planned production in the EU should make the brand’s value case more compelling without straying from a straightforward formula.
