2026 Best Midsize SUV under $60,000 shortlist: Haval H6, Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forester, Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X. Prices, pros, and announcement date.

Drive’s experts have officially announced the final shortlist for the 2026 Best Midsize SUV Under $60,000 (“Drive Car of the Year”). Five models from different manufacturers made the cut.

1. GWM Haval H6

The Chinese contender stands out for its efficiency and generous equipment. Its second-generation Hi4 PHEV system delivers roughly 100 kilometers of electric driving on a single battery charge. Judges say the blend of a $48,990 sticker and solid build quality puts the Haval H6 out in front among budget-minded SUVs in this segment.

2. Hyundai Tucson

The reigning titleholder has also refreshed its lineup ahead of the new season. Hyundai rolled out an upgraded Tucson with a hybrid system, while preserving its reputation as a dependable family choice. Priced at $59,850, it earns credit from experts for the step up in comfort and technology.

3. Subaru Forester

Subaru’s crossover secured its place in the final thanks to impressive off-road ability and strong safety credentials. With 220 mm of ground clearance, it has an advantage on tougher sections of road. Buyers also get advanced driver-assistance and modern active-safety tech. Base price: $55,990.

4. Tesla Model Y

Despite a reduction in battery capacity and a slower charging rate, Tesla maintained public and critical interest after its lineup update under the “Juniper” project. Experts highlight the attractive $58,990 price and distinctive design, even if some rivals deliver better range and day-to-day convenience.

5. Zeekr 7X

This Chinese electric crossover emerged as a genuine surprise of the season. Zeekr positions itself as a premium brand, offering high comfort, a spacious cabin, and broad opportunities for rapid recharging. The base trim starts at $57,900, helping the model stand out among its peers.

The overall “Drive Car of the Year” winner will be selected by a professional jury and announced in February next year.
